Quick Answer

  • The only confirmed Blue bond comes from the shadow route: climb the tallest tree at the fork, then take the random follow a shadow option if it appears.
  • The Blue is the first dragon on that route. Hold still. Do not approach her or step in to help the injured cadet.
  • A Blue can also appear in the meadow beside the Orange and Brown, but no bond there is confirmed yet.
  • No shadow option means no Blue on that route this run. Each death costs a 4-hour wait.

§1 How Blue Dragons Work in Dragonkind

Most cadets bond a Red, Green, Brown or Orange. Blue and Black dragons only show up on lucky runs, and the r/fourthwing moderators are clear that there is no specific way to get a Black or Blue dragon. What you can control is being in the right place when the luck arrives, and not getting burned once you are there.

There are two places players have met a Blue. The shadow route is where the confirmed bond came from. The meadow Blue is the other, but players who tried to bond her report deaths so far. In the books, blues are known as large, proud and unforgiving, and the game plays them the same way: they choose you, not the other way around.

Known Blue lineages: Gormfaileas, Nyghmuiron.

§2 Route 1: The Shadow Route Confirmed bond

This is the same door that leads to the Black dragon. The Blue is simply the first dragon behind it.

  1. Survive the early scenes. Lowering your eyes to the first dragon is the safest start. See the Threshing answers for each scene.
  2. At the fork in the forest, choose find the tallest tree and climb for a better view.
  3. At the top you normally get two options (climb down slowly for the green, or descend quickly). On some runs a third option appears: follow a shadow. ★ This is the luck step.
  4. Take it, and commit to following her. Players describe it as "lock in, only follow her".
  5. You reach a Blue. Hold still. Ignore the injured cadet for now.
  6. If the Blue accepts you, you get your bond card. Blue bond

The moderators' summary of the confirmed bond is short: follow the shadow, only follow her, and when you reach the Blue, just hold still. Players who held her gaze and advanced, or who tried to help the injured cadet first, report being burned.

§3 Route 2: The Meadow Blue Unconfirmed

If you pass on the Red at the valley center, you walk into a meadow with an Orange and a Brown. On some runs a Blue appears as a third option. The community chart notes she shows up more often if you killed the bullies earlier in the run. One player believes the meadow is where Blues always appear outside the shadow route.

The problem is bonding her. Players in fan groups report that approaching the meadow Blue gets you burned, and the community chart lists lower gaze, halt advance as a death too. Several players say they reached the "Orange, Brown or Blue" choice many times and died every time they picked Blue.

Bottom line: if you want a safe bond from the meadow, pick the Orange or Brown. Only gamble on the meadow Blue if you are willing to spend another 4 hours.

§4 Blue or Black? Choosing on the Shadow Route

The shadow route forces a choice. Players summarize it as: bond (or die to) the Blue that appears first, or pass on the Blue and bond (or die to) the Black that comes after. You cannot keep both doors open.

  • Want a Blue? Hold still for her and accept the bond.
  • Want a Black? Hold still and bow, let the Blue pass, then follow the steps in the Black dragon route.

The shadow option is rare (one player first saw it on their 16th attempt), so taking the Blue when she comes is the safer choice: you cannot keep both doors open. One couple reported choosing between a Blue and a Black and losing both runs.

§5 Common Blue Dragon Deaths

  • Holding the Blue's gaze and advancing on the shadow route. Player reports
  • Holding her gaze, doing nothing, then choosing to continue. One player held the Blue's gaze, did nothing while she killed the cadet, then died on the next prompt by choosing to continue. Single report
  • Approaching the meadow Blue. Player reports
  • Lower gaze, halt advance in the meadow. Community-mapped

Every death locks the Threshing for 4 hours. Start the Dragonkind retry timer so you know exactly when to try again.

§6 Blue Dragon Myths

  • Phone battery or time of day. Some sites repeat a claim that entering with a certain battery level changes your dragon. No one has shown a test, and the official team has not said anything about it. Rumor
  • Extra accounts with email aliases. Players report the site has blocked the "+alias" trick, so you cannot dodge the cooldown this way.
  • Simulator results. Fan-made Threshing simulators on other sites are separate games with their own stories and odds. Their Blue counts are not data from dragonkind.com.

§ FAQ

Can you get a blue dragon in Dragonkind?

Yes. The r/fourthwing moderators confirmed a successful Blue bond through the shadow route. It is rare and depends on a random option appearing.

How do you get a blue dragon in Dragonkind?

Climb the tallest tree at the fork in the forest. If a third option to follow a shadow appears, take it. You meet a Blue first: hold still and do not approach her.

Is the blue dragon in the meadow bondable?

Not confirmed. A Blue sometimes appears beside the Orange and Brown in the meadow, but players who approached her report being burned, and the community chart has no confirmed meadow Blue bond.

Is there a guaranteed way to get a blue dragon?

No. The moderators state there is no specific way to get a Black or Blue dragon. The shadow option is random, so you can only control what you do once it appears.

Does phone battery or time of day affect getting a blue dragon?

There is no evidence for it. These theories spread on social media, but no one has shown a test that holds up, and we found no official statement about it.
